Artistic Director

Leslie started directing in repertory theatre in
Folkestone. His very first production of Terence
Rattigan's SEPARATE TABLES was so successful that
he was invited back to be Director Of Productions
the following season. He then became the first
Artistic Director of the picturesque Watermill
Theatre in Newbury.
After a spell of work at the BBC and as a freelance
director Leslie became Artistic Director and Licensee
of the newly formed Southend Civic Theatre Trust and
ran the Palace Theatre Westcliff for three record
breaking years from 1972-5.
Among the many memorable Westcliff successes were
KING LEAR, CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, AN INSPECTOR
CALLS, PYGMALION, FORGET-ME-NOT-LANE, ROMEO AND
JULIET, THE NATIONAL HEALTH, THE BOYS IN THE BAND,
Alfred Marks as John Osbone's THE ENTERTAINER,
Anne Stallybrass as G.B.Shaw's CANDIDA, Peggy Mount
in THE BANDWAGON and ALL THINGS BRIGHT & BEAUTIFUL,
Irene Sutcliffe in THE DAY AFTER THE FAIR, Gary
Raymond and Delena Kidd in MACBETH, Peter Adamson
in A THOUSAND CLOWNS and Peter Duncan in EQUUS
and BILLY LIAR.
